Once 2-Step Verification is active, go directly to the Google App Passwords settings page. Type a descriptive name (e.g.

Copy 16-Character Key
Google will display a yellow dialog containing a unique 16-character app password. Copy it, and paste it into the Gmail App Password field on the left. (Note: any spaces will be automatically removed by the system).

Test and Save
Fill in the Sender Gmail and Recipient Email fields, then click Test Email. Once you verify that the test email arrived in your inbox, click Save Email Settings to activate automated nightly database backups!
